Kurrawa Surf Club is positioned with absolute beach exposure as the centrepiece of the famous coastline within Broadbeach. It isn’t just the location that will excite you. Long-term planning and strategic commitment over 15 years has culminated in the Club creating a brand new, purpose-built hospitality and clubhouse facility, due to open for trading before this Christmas. This opportunity is rare and only one of a small handful of positions in the hospitality sector. As the General Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the on-going successful and profitable hospitality operations (food, beverage, gaming, functions and events and membership) of Kurrawa Surf Club. The role is vital for the surf operations too. Allocations of the profits from trading of the Supporters Club substantially fund the operations of the Surf Club providing beach safety on this busy stretch of coastline.

The timing is perfect too. Broadbeach is undergoing a transformation with the Pacific Fair redevelopment and the completion of major works at the Star Casino. The Commonwealth Games next year will further add to the excitement and opportunities for the role.

The new facilities have been carefully designed and constructed to cater for the growing hospitality and surf operations of the Club. The four-level construction will provide seating for over 400 for meals and functions, a dedicated coffee shop at ground level, exceptional bar facilities overlooking the beach and parkland and an 80-machine casino-style gaming environment. The surf operations are accommodated within the ground and lower levels to provide the best surf lifesaving, medical first response rooms and surf education seminar facilities in Australia.

You’ll oversee the successful transition to the new property and enjoy catering for the growth that couldn’t be accommodated in the old clubhouse that has served the Club so well for so long. Food and beverage operations are extensive with annual sales in excess of $10 million. Gaming is set to grow also within the new property with a new environment and more machines.

The General Manager will be responsible for continuing the wonderful culture of success and excellence already created in this award-winning Club. Membership currently stands at 1,000 active patrol members and 14,000 social members but that’s set to grow too in the new facilities.

The successful candidate will possess all the skills to manage a high-volume fast-paced hospitality operation with significant gaming, café and function facilities. You’ll be familiar with the Club environment and have the skills and understanding to liaise successfully with and report to a Board of Directors. The need for on-going strategic planning and development will be a key component of the role.

Close liaison with the surf operations management team is crucial, because the two operational areas, Supporters Club and Surf Club, work hand-in-hand to deliver community outcomes.

As the General Manager, you will be pivotal in maintaining and further improving the high standards and culture of the Club in the new facilities and environment.

You’ll be progressive in your thinking and pursue new technologies and innovations so the operations remain highly relevant to the changing demands of consumers.
